Opportunity to Comment on Ontario's Child Care Modernization

 

On June 27, 2012, the Ministry of Education released a discussion paper “Modernizing Child Care in Ontario: Sharing Conversations, Strengthening Partnerships, Working Together,” to begin a conversation on child care modernization. The paper outlines the government's long term vision for child care and seeks feedback on targeted medium-term objectives that will help us achieve that vision over the next three years.

On page 72 of the MOH report, under “Language training programs and services”, it is erroneously reported that a French-speaking focus group participant was unable to take federally-funded LINC English classes because he already spoke an official language.

[In the Field September 2012] New Report Released: Falling Behind

Recently the Ontario Common Front hit the provincial scene in a big way with the launch of a report called Falling Behind.  The report focuses on Ontario's growing inequality, which has dominated the media and put a spotlight on the harsh impact of cuts to jobs and services.

The report was produced by a coalition of over 90 not-for-profit organizations, unions and community groups across the province and detail how Ontario has fallen behind all other provinces in terms of income inequality, rising poverty and inadequate funding for services.
