The chants - the call and response of rallies and demonstrations of years past and current moments of protests, echoed faintly along University Avenue as a scraggly group of just over one hundred concerned residents walked from Toronto City Hall to Queen’s Park.

CHEERS is a community-based mentorship program for youth in the child welfare system, to provide comprehensive support services as they transition from care to independence. Eligible youth are connected with peer and adult mentors. CHEERS is sponsored by Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre.

The PET Fund is available for In-House Group Training ONLY. Organizations funded by Immigrant Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) are eligible to apply for funds up to $3000 to cover the facilitator’s fee for group training on topics that will benefit their work.

Webinar: Challenging Conversion Practices

Join us at our Positive Spaces Initiative (PSI) webinar on Thursday, October 19th, 12-1:30pm EST.  Guest speakers from the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) will review “Bill C-4: An Act to amend the Criminal Code (conversion therapy)” and examine the understanding of conversion practices and their impacts on immigrant queer and trans youth in Canada.

Having a Say at Your Job: Why Workers’ Voice Builds Better Workplaces, Better Economy, Better Lives

Labour economist Jim Stanford takes viewers on an animated tour of a workplace where workers have a strong collective voice: the ability to speak out, be heard, and make change. The 11-minute video illuminates key findings from economic research: when workers have a strong ‘say’ at work, workplaces are safer, more productive, and fairer, and workers’ lives are better.

National Emergency Survivor Support Fund

YWCA Canada has created the National Emergency Survivor Support Fund (NESS Fund). The Fund provides women, gender-diverse people, and their families with financial support to leave unsafe homes or emergency shelters/precarious housing situations and begin their healing journeys. Survivors of gender-based violence can apply for a one-time financial support of up to $2,000.

Can’t Buy My Silence

End misuse of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) and support survivors of Gender-Based Violence make informed choices. An NDA is a signed legal document that restricts sharing information designated as ‘confidential’ with others. When they are misused to cover up misconduct, they silence survivors, protect perpetrators and institutions, and deny individual accountability. CIARS 12th Annual Decolonization Conference

The conference is organized by the Centre for Integrative Anti-Racism Studies' (CIARS) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. It will be held in-person in Toronto on November 9-11, 2023. The conference invites attendees to think through race, coloniality and Indigeneity. Key note speakers include: Glen Coulthard, Heidi Safia Mirza, Nelson Maldonado-Torres and Vanessa Andreotti.

Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) has posted two Calls for Proposals:

  1. Women’s Economic and Leadership Opportunities Fund.
  2. Women’s Capacity Fund.

The Call is open to Canadian non-profit organizations with experience in advancing equality for women.
Deadline: November 3, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Pacific time.

Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is accepting applications under this stream until November 17, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. EST. The SDF Training Stream offers funding to organizations for innovative projects that address challenges to hiring, training or retaining workers, including apprentices, to drive Ontario's economic growth.
