It had been a week of frustration at endless meetings and discussion and media feasting on stories of a people displaced – without place in a city where they came for protection and refuge. Literally a hard landing, with many sleeping on concrete outside the place where they were sent to seek support.

LGBTQ+ Refugee Narrative Writing Support Program

The 519’s Access to Justice and Legal Initiatives programs support underserved 2SLGBTQ+ communities to reduce barriers to accessing relevant legal services and educational resources. This program is only accessible to LGBTQ+ refugee claimants and non-status LGBTQ+ individuals who intend to make a refugee claim and are yet to submit their personal narrative and/or Basis of Claim (BoC).

OCASI Federal Pre-Budget Submission 2024-2025

OCASI made a written submission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, for the pre-budget consultations in advance of the 2024 federal budget. OCASI made several recommendations including a call for an independent racial equity and anti-racism review and revamp of the immigration and refugee system, and a comprehensive and inclusive immigration status regularization program.

Indigenous Peoples in Toronto: An Introduction for Newcomers

A new resource that introduces newcomers to Toronto, to First Nations, Inuit and Métis history, cultures and perspectives. The initiative was led and informed by Indigenous and newcomer expertise. It is a collaboration between the City of Toronto, OCASI Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants and Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services.

Call For Participants: Barriers to Employment

Participate in a study by the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) to better understand employment experiences of Muslim women in Canada. This WAGE Canada funded project will develop tools and strategies to increase Muslim women’s recruitment, retention and advancement in non-traditional, growing economic sectors. Focus groups will be held in Bangla, Somali, Urdu, Arabic, Farsi/Dari and Pashto.

The community-based stream of the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grant that supports community-based projects that are designed by seniors for seniors. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $25,000 for projects that are led by seniors and are volunteer based.

Laidlaw Foundation - PopUp Grant 2023 #PUG

The PopUp Grants is an annual microgrant offered to youth groups and grassroots organizations. Each year, there is a new theme for this grant stream based on important and current issues. This fund will support Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities dealing with increasing social insecurity and lack of resources to access support.
