OCASI provides training and professional development geared to the needs of staff, board and volunteers of member agencies and other immigrant and refugee-serving organizations.

OCASI’s objectives in this area are to strengthen the capacity of sector organizations and to increase the professional competency of frontline and other staff through skills training.

Components include OCASI Professional Development Conferences that bring together over 300 participants from across Ontario, the Professional Development and Training Project (PET) that sponsors individual learning and agency-specific training; and regional activities that enhance networking and sharing of innovative approaches and expertise. OCASI’s areas of training range from settlement counselling, anti-racism, prevention of violence against women, and youth programming.

Journey to Mental Health: A Training Series for Community Workers Serving Immigrants and Refugees
This project seeks to provide interactive workshops for settlement workers with the key objective of enhancing the capacity of settlement service workers in addressing the mental health issues presented by the individuals they serve.

Professional Education and Training (PET) Project for Eligible ISAP and NSP Funded Settlement Workers
The Objective of the PET project is to provide professional development and training for settlement workers employed under the Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program (ISAP).
