Funding and Infrastructure Support
The continued success of immigrant service agencies in meeting the needs of the immigrant communities requires adequate, ongoing operational or project funding from government. OCASI has consistently advocated for a significant increase in funding and the expansion of sustaining operational and program funding for settlement.
OCASI also emphasizes the need for government to amend funding criteria to increase the flexibility of services and ensure its accessibility. It encourages government funding bodies to be flexible so that they reflect the needs and wide diversity of agencies providing services.
OCASI has also communicated our concern that grant procedures be streamlined so that organizations are not required to divert great amounts of resources to resubmission preparation. Related to this, OCASI encourages funders to implement multi-year funding of immigrant services.
OCASI seeks to ensure and enhance the autonomy of the community agencies within a context of accountability to the funding sources.
