[August 2012 In the Field] Metropolis Moves from CIC to Carleton University

After 16 years at Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Secretariat for the Metropolis Project is announcing that it has moved to new premises at Carleton University in Ottawa. This move coincides with the end of the funding of the Metropolis Centres of Excellence in Canada and the completion of this phase of the Canadian Metropolis Project.

The Metropolis Secretariat in Ottawa will continue to manage the International Metropolis Project in partnership with the Metropolis Secretariat at the University of Amsterdam and a new Secretariat for Metropolis Asia co-located at the International Organization for Migration’s Migration Research and Training Centre ( Goyang-si, Korea ) and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (Manila, The Philippines).

In addition to carrying out this traditional international role, Metropolis at Carleton will function as a research think tank in the field of immigration and population diversity and, to this end, will facilitate exchanges between researchers and government officials at all levels of government. Metropolis continue to organize public lectures, seminars and roundtables. Researchers will be encouraged to work in areas that are foresee as requiring greater attention in the future, and will offer advice to government officials as they develop immigration-related policy. The Metropolis team will take advantage of the new strengths being located at Carleton University will offer and will continue to draw on the very sizable network of scholars, officials, and members of civil society organizations in Canada and throughout the world.

The websites for the Canadian Metropolis Project have been archived as of March 31. No new material will be posted to these sites, but their contents will remain available to all users at www.metropolis.net . The website for the International Metropolis Project will remain in operation and will continue to offer information about our activities.
